Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB)’s release of its Q3 2013 Questionable Claims (QC) referral reason analysis. The report covers six categories of referred claims and their reasons, Workers’ Comp included. Questionable claims are those claims that NICB member insurance companies refer to NICB for closer review and investigation based upon one or more indicators of possible fraud.
According to the report, Workers’ Comp QC referral reasons increased 4% when comparing the first 3 Quarters of 2012 and 2013. Disability and False SSN referrals topped the percentage increases, however Claimant Fraud remains the largest Workers’ Comp referral reason by over 2.5 times the next closest category. Check out the Workers’ Comp breakout starting on page 5.
