Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new white paper from Progressive Medical that outlines an analysis that was conducted to determine if new state legislation regulating opioid prescribing practices was creating changes in utilization.
Progressive selected Kentucky, New York and Tennessee for in-depth evaluation, and examined data from six months pre/post legislation passage, both as a whole and comparing in and out-of-network data. Interestingly, the analysis found little to no evidence of change as a result of the legislation. Progressive noted that this was likely due to the relatively short timeline, system culture and other factors, and also that it indicated the need for a collaborative approach in addressing the opioid epidemic.
