Dept of Veterans Affairs Extends PBM & DME Contract with Coventry WCS

October 2, 2013 - WorkCompWire

Franklin, TN – Coventry Workers’ Comp Services recently announced that it will continue to provide pharmacy and durable medical equipment services to more than 14,000 Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employees. Coventry has been awarded a contract extension from the VA to continue providing their First Script® Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) and DMEplus ® programs. These programs allow eligible VA injured workers to obtain prescription medications, durable medical equipment, physical therapy, and imaging services.

In addition to the many program benefits for their employees, the VA has saved approximately $7 million dollars since the program was implemented in 2011, and despite being a voluntary program has achieved an 88% participation rate.

“The Department of Veterans Affairs is very pleased with the results we’ve achieved since implementing Coventry’s programs,” said Danna Corbell, Program Manager. “This has been a true partnership that has effectively provided us with the services our injured workers need, as well as the oversight and utilization management required to administer a highly successful federal workers’ compensation program.”

For workers who suffer work related injuries the programs provide immediate access to over 67,000 network pharmacy locations, and over 6,000 durable medical equipment and ancillary service providers nationwide. Injured workers receive their medications through retail or mail order, in addition to convenient delivery of medical supplies, and prompt scheduling for medical imaging/testing and physical therapy.

“As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I am honored that the VA is allowing Coventry the opportunity to continue to serve their employees,” said David Young, CEO of Coventry Workers’ Comp Services. “Our lengthy experience developing and managing federal workers’ compensation programs, combined with our expertise in clinical oversight and cost containment solutions, demonstrates our commitment to address the unique workers’ compensation issues faced by government agencies each day.”
