Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report from NCCI that covers the latest workers’ comp claims frequency change estimate for Accident Year 2012, and examines the effect of the recession on frequency changes.
According to NCCI, the recent recession and its modest recovery had a significant impact on claims frequency, which increased 3.8% in Accident Year 2010, marking the first increase since 1997, and prior to which frequency had been declining at an average rate of over 4% per year since 1990. For 2012, NCCI noted that while frequency actually decreased by 5%, the average cost per lost-time claim increased 1% for indemnity and 3% for medical.
