Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new reference book from WCRI covering the prevalence, prices, and costs of physician-dispensed drugs in 24 study states, representing 70 percent of the total workers’ comp benefits paid in the US. The new book also compares prices paid for physician and pharmacy dispensed drugs, and tracks changes in prices for drugs commonly dispensed by physicians to injured workers.
Previous WCRI research has found considerably higher prices paid for physician-dispensed prescriptions when compared to pharmacies for the same drug, as well as rapid growth of physician dispensing in several study states. WCRI also noted that few states have sought to prohibit or severely limit physician dispensing.
