LA Workforce Commission: 2012 Work-Related Fatalities Decline in Louisiana

September 23, 2013 - WorkCompWire

Baton Rouge, LA – The number of work-related fatalities in 2012 in Louisiana declined to 106, according to a preliminary count by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries. This is down slightly from the revised figure of 111 deaths in 2011, and 111 deaths in 2010.

“The decline is a credit to the attention to safety paid by Louisiana business and industry and by their employees,” said Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director Curt Eysink. “The LWC supports and encourages all efforts by employers and their employees to keep their workplaces safe.”

Industries reporting the most fatalities were trade, transportation and utilities, 35; construction, 23; natural resources and mining, 13; government, 11; and manufacturing, 9.

The LWC’s Office of Workers’ Compensation collects the data in partnership with the BLS. Additional state and national data is available at the BLS website Injuries, Illnesses and Fatalities section at bls.gov/iif.
