CA Insurance Commissioner Appoints New Deputy Commissioner of Enforcement

September 24, 2013 - WorkCompWire

Sacramento, CA – Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones recently announced the appointment of Eric Weirich to the position of deputy commissioner of the enforcement branch of the California Department of Insurance (CDI).

“I am extremely confident in Eric’s ability to lead the enforcement branch and advance our mission of insurance protection for all Californians,” said Commissioner Jones. “I am optimistic that Eric’s leadership skills and history of excellent service in law enforcement will be a valuable asset to the enforcement branch.”

Weirich’s law enforcement career began with his assignment to the security police squadron in the United States Air Force. Eric has more than 25 years of civilian law enforcement experience, including time as a police officer with the Vacaville Police Department and as an investigator with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. He began his career with the Department of Insurance as a detective with the fraud division in 1998. Since that time, he has promoted through the ranks to detective, sergeant, captain of the Benicia Regional offices, Northern California bureau chief, and most recently as fraud division chief. Weirich brings a great deal of operational and administrative experience to his new assignment.

The CDI enforcement branch has made 1,961 arrests between January 2011 and June 2013, with 1,839 arrests by the fraud division and 122 arrests by the investigation division.
