Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features news from Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear on the initial results of House Bill 1, which was signed into law last spring, and included multiple elements to prevent the abuse and diversion of prescription drugs and to enhance law enforcement’s tools to investigate illegal prescribing practices.
Beshear noted that for the first time in a decade, Kentucky overdose deaths declined in 2012, as reported by the Office of Drug Control Policy. Also of note were major increases in the KASPER monitoring system’s enrollments and report requests, with the system going from about 7,500 to over 24,000 members, and seeing report requests more than triple from 800k to nearly 2.7 million.
