Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report from WCRI that found that Florida’s House Bill 7095, which went into effect July 1, 2011 and banned physician dispensing of stronger opioids reduced the use of opioids prescribed for injured workers.
The study also found that the average physician-dispenser in Florida did continue to dispense pain medications after the ban, but increased the use of less addictive pain medications, and that there was a high rate of compliance, with only half a percent of injured workers receiving physician-dispensed stronger opioids, with most fitting within the laws limited exceptions.
