Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features some news from the ongoing reform front, as PCI recently voiced further support for legislation that has recently passed the Oklahoma state legislature that would take its workers’ comp processes out of the legal system and make them “quicker, more efficient and less costly”.
The Oklahoma legislation’s most noted features include replacing the Workers’ Compensation Court with an administrative dispute resolution system, and allowing employers to opt-out of the workers’ comp system and administer benefits to employees through a qualified benefit plan. Also of note in recent reforms is the fact that if the Oklahoma law is enacted, Alabama will be the only remaining state in the country with a court-based workers’ compensation system.
