Wilmington, DE – Lt. Governor Denn, Chair of Delaware’s Workers’ Compensation Task Force, and business and legislative leaders recently announced the release of their recommendations and report that were to be presented to Governor Markell and the General Assembly.
The Workers Compensation Task Force was created on January 30, 2013 by the Delaware General Assembly and the Governor, and charged with an expedited review of Delaware law relating to workers compensation, the impact that the 2007 amendments to that law had upon workers compensation premiums, the reasons for recent increases in workers compensation premiums, and whether any additional changes to statutes, regulations, or practices are required to control growth in premiums.
The reason for the creation of the task force was to address the dramatic increase in Delaware’s workers compensation premiums over the past two years, after four consecutive years of decreases that totaled over 40%. The task force was given just over three months to investigate, deliberate, and issue the report.
Lieutenant Governor Denn, who worked with the General Assembly in 2006 and 2007 to enact workers compensation reforms that cut rates by over 40%, has chaired weekly meetings since February to address the issue and come up with common-sense solutions.
All meetings were open to the public, provided an opportunity for public comment, audio-recorded and posted on the Lieutenant Governor’s website, along with all documents presented at meetings.
