Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of Progressive Medical’s 2013 Drug Trends Report. Key highlights from the report included results of the early intervention program launched last July, which yielded a 15% reduction in morphine equivalence per claim, and a 36.9% reduction in the prescription cost per claim just two months after intervention.
Progressive Medical also noted more claims closing in the acute phase, with programs cutting the likelihood that a claim will mature into a two-year claim by over half. Additonally, use of long-acting and immediate-release opioid analgesics is down while use of anti-inflammatory medications, anticonvulsant and antidepressant medications are either flat or up.
