Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features more research from WCRI with the release of a new edition of their CompScope Medical Benchmarks series. California’s recent regulatory changes were noted in this edition, where WCRI expects both the prices and utilization of medical care for injured workers by most types of providers to be affected.
WCRI also used this edition to compare how California performed with other study states prior to SB 863. The study noted that while medical payments per claim were fairly typical, they masked offsetting factors. Prices paid trended lower than typical study states, but utilization of nonhospital services was higher. Future editions are expected to monitor the overall impact of SB 863 and it’s impact on the behavior of system participants.
