The presentation, “Escalating Pharmaceutical Costs in Workers’ Compensation: One Clinical Solution” will take place on Tuesday, April 23rd at 2:15 pm.
Pharmaceutical costs are a significant driver of medical expenses within the workers’ compensation industry. Physician dispensing practices, the rising use of narcotic opioids, and the diversion of prescribed drugs to others all contribute to this trend. The session will cover the workers’ compensation drug cost dilemma and strategies to help manage the factors contributing to these escalating costs. Discussion points include the use of data analytics and evidenced-based medicine guidelines, the impact of physician peer review and the integration of pharmacy and PPO network services.
The collaboration among the employer, third party administrator and pharmacy benefit manager is critical to the success of a pharmacy program. The group will discuss pharmacy program best practices including the roles of all stakeholders, guidance for developing and implementing a program, and the successful outcomes achieved in mitigating pharmacy costs and improving injured worker outcomes.
