Towson, MD – Overdose deaths involving prescription painkillers have skyrocketed in the past decade and now exceed deaths involving heroin and cocaine combined, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nowhere is the problem of narcotics overuse more evident than in the field of workers’ compensation.
To raise awareness about this growing problem IWIF will host the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Prescription Drug Abuse Summit on Friday, April 12, 2013, at the BWI Marriott hotel from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Expert medical, prescription and pain management professionals will address key issues including:
- Narcotics prescription abuse in Maryland’s workers’ compensation system
- Narcotics abuse and the problem in the general community
- Overview of Maryland’s prescription drug monitoring program
- Safe prescribing of narcotics for pain management
The summit is free and targets policyholders, business owners, government and municipal leaders and healthcare providers.
