Orlando, FL – Representatives from CompPharma’s workers’ compensation pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) member companies will discuss legislative, regulatory and clinical approaches to tackling opioid abuse in workers’ compensation at the National Rx Drug Abuse Summit on April 2 in Orlando.
Even though opioids are not recommended for long-term chronic pain, 24 percent of the work comp pharmacy dollar is spent on opioids (compared to only three percent in group health). “Workers’ Compensation and the Opioid Conundrum: Handling a Painful Challenge in a Pain Focused Marketplace” features PMSI’s Executive Director of Government Affairs Kevin Tribout, Healthesystem’s Director of Compliance Harry Monroe, myMatrixx’s Chief Clinical and Compliance Officer Phil Walls, R.Ph. and Modern Medical’s Director of Clinical Services Robyn Satterfield, Pharm.D.
Discussion points include identifying at-risk injured employees, monitoring refill rates, quantity/dose restrictions, educating claimants and physicians, and working with prescribers to wean injured employees off opioids. Panelists also highlight significant state initiatives, Prescription Drug Management Programs and the FDA’s Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategies.
The session takes place Tuesday, April 2, starting at 10:15 a.m., at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.
