Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB)’s release of its 2012 Questionable Claims (QC) referral reason analysis. The report covers six categories of referred claims and their reasons, Workers’ Compensation included. Questionable claims are those claims that NICB member insurance companies refer to NICB for closer review and investigation based upon one or more indicators of possible fraud.
According to the report, between 2011 and 2012 overall QC referrals for Workers’ Compensation saw an increase of 23 percent, with Premium Fraud posting the highest percentage increase at 79%. Claimant Fraud however remains the largest referral reason by almost triple. Be sure to check out the Workers’ Comp breakout in the full report.
