Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the California DWC’s announcement that they will be holding public hearings for new Independent Medical Review (IMR) and Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) regulations. The proposals are to permanently adopt the emergency regulations which became effective on Jan. 1, 2013 as a result of SB 863.
The IMR regulations detail the IMR process including timeframes and manner for an injured worker to seek IMR, as well as forms and fees. The QME regulations amend existing ones to clarify that IMR is the sole process for resolving disputes regarding ongoing medical treatment issues.
