Michigan Physician Physician Summarily Suspended After DEA Arrest

January 30, 2013 - WorkCompWire

Lansing, MI – The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has summarily suspended the medical license of Basil Azmi Abdulmuti Qandil, M.D., of Dearborn Heights based on his arrest by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on January 16, 2013.

Qandil was arrested and charged with Unlawful Distribution of Controlled Substances and Health Care Fraud as a result of a sting operation conducted by the DEA. The sting operation revealed that Qandil was prescribing excessive quantities of controlled substances to patients without conducting proper medical examinations and without properly documenting in patients’ charts.

On January 16, 2013, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Qandil’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code.
