Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the Illiniois Department of Human Services’ announcement that their Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) has joined a national data sharing network aimed at greater identification and prevention of prescription drug abuse.
Connecting with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy’s PMP InterConnect program allows participating states to share information on controlled substance prescriptions, which should help IDHS’ PMP with identification of duplicate prescriptions that have been issued across state lines. The PMP will also integrate with Electronic Health Record systems to allow access to prescription information across healthcare networks, including emergency departments and short and long-term inpatient care.
