Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report on employers’ ability to opt-out of Texas’ workers’ comp system, and whether the results could help other states solve long-term problems. Completed by the New Street Group and primary researcher Peter Rousmaniere, the new study found that employers who elect to privatize their workers’ comp see numerous positive results, including many cases of drastically reduced loss costs, improved accountability surrounding treatment, and significant decreases in employer concerns about fraud and abuse.
The report also provides extensive analysis of the claims and medical management process for an opt-out employer, a comprehensive analysis of a major national retailer’s opt-out program, and describes the unsuccessful effort to adopt an opt-out program in Oklahoma earlier this year.
