Orchid Medical, Walgreens to Provide Injured Workers Access to Durable Medical Equipment

November 2, 2012 - WorkCompWire

Orlando, FL -(BusinessWire)- Orchid Medical recently announced that they have formed a strategic relationship with Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain, to provide injured workers a convenient, nationwide source for medical supplies while offering significant savings to workers’ compensation payers.

With access to over 7,900 Walgreens locations in 50 states throughout the U.S., injured workers serviced through Orchid Medical can go to select Walgreens to obtain their Durable Medical Equipment (DME) included under the program.

Orchid Medical officials will be discussing the new program at the National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference® & Expo Nov. 7-8 in Las Vegas.

Under the program, Orchid Medical customers – leading TPAs, employers and insurance carriers – can save shipping and delivery charges for medical supplies prescribed for work-related injuries, such as walking canes, walkers, wheelchairs and other products. Shipping costs account for 8 percent of Orchid Medical’s DME billing.

“Adding Walgreens as a network provider is another step in our commitment to creating more cost efficiencies for our customers,” said Oliver Ostlander, Orchid Medical Chief Information Officer. “The relationship also enables us to extend our market penetration, while bringing another customer service and cost savings program to the workers’ comp industry.”

Orchid Medical, a one-stop comprehensive medical service company with a nationwide network of providers, offers ancillary medical services for workers’ compensation, including DME, Orthotics & Prosthetics, Home Health Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Physical Therapy, Urinary Drug Testing and Surgical Cost Containment Program (SCCP).

“This is one of the many ways we are providing more personalized care and services to our customers as part of Walgreens transformation to a health and daily living destination,” said Marlin Hutchens, Walgreens market vice president.
