Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB)’s release of its first-half 2012 Questionable Claims (QC) referral reason analysis. The report covers six categories of referred claims and their reasons, Workers’ Comp included. Questionable claims are those claims that NICB member insurance companies refer to NICB for closer review and investigation based upon one or more indicators of possible fraud.
According to the report, Workers’ Comp QC referral reasons increased 20% from the 1st Half of 2011 to the 1st Half of 2012, with Claimant Fraud posting the highest increase in volume in the Workers’ Comp QC category from the 1st Half of 2011 to the 1st Half of 2012.
