Tampa, FL & Orlando, FL -(BusinessWire)- Orchid Medical, an ancillary healthcare services company, has acquired the surgical implant business from Workers’ Implantable Network (WIN). WIN is a Tampa-based national company that assists workers’ compensation claims professionals with prospective management of implantable devices.
The announcement was made concurrently with the WCI Annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference Aug. 19-23 in Orlando where Orchid Medical is a prime sponsor.
Established by its president and CEO, Stacey Whidden, WIN is a natural fit for Orchid Medical, an Orlando-based comprehensive medical service company known for bringing cost containment solutions to the workers’ compensation industry.
“As budgets shrink, customers need more and better ways to save money in a workers’ compensation system beset with redundancies and cost inefficiencies,” said Brian Carwile, CEO of Orchid Medical. “Our customers look to Orchid Medical as a resource for providing new avenues for cost containment, making the WIN initiative a logical step for us.”
Considered an industry pioneer, Whidden founded Express Dental Care, the first and only national dental network that addresses the specific needs of the workers’ compensation, auto, and liability industries, streamlining the services and maximizing cost savings. Whidden also founded Access on Time and Workers Addiction Management.
Leveraging her expertise, entrepreneurial skills and strong customer focus, Whidden built WIN into a full-service business with an innovative approach to prospectively managing the authorization of implantable devices to reduce costs to employers, insurance carriers, and TPAs while maintaining quality care and physician choice.
WIN partners with manufacturers, physicians, hospitals, and surgery centers to effectively manage patient care and cost containment on spinal cord stimulators and other implantable devices.
“It is important that our customers and partners receive the topnotch service they experienced with WIN,” said Whidden. “We are excited about the agreement with Orchid Medical, because we know our customers are in good hands when it comes to putting them first.”
Adding WIN’s surgical implant business is another step in Orchid Medical’s strategy to expand quality programs that significantly reduce the cost of implantable surgical devices to workers’ compensation payers.
Earlier this year, Orchid Medical formed a strategic partnership with Medical Implant Solutions, LLC (MIS) of St. Louis to bring Surgical Cost Containment Program (SCCP) to the market. The program provides a dynamic solution to one of the most cost-inflated areas of medical treatment for injured workers.
SCCP leverages MIS’ experience in controlling over-utilization of implantable devices and ability to influence the cost of medical devices through direct contracts with the manufacturer.
SCCP benefits from Orchid Medical’s operational and sales expertise to deliver the service to the payer cost-effectively, and from Orchid Medical’s OMNI™ system, its proprietary web-based technology that allows case managers, adjusters, and physicians to track workloads, cost savings and turnaround time.
