Tallahassee, FL – Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater recently announced that the Department of Financial Services’ (DFS) will be managing the Reemployment Services Program for injured employees, effective July 1, 2012. The program, previously administered by the Department of Education (DOE), will now be housed in the Division of Workers’ Compensation. Reemployment Services helps workers return to work when a work-related injury or illness, covered under the Florida workers’ compensation law, prevents returning to their usual line of work.
The 2012 Legislature passed HB 5203 which moved the Reemployment Services Program from the DOE to DFS.
The program’s primary focus is to get Florida’s injured workers back into the workforce as soon as they are capable and as efficiently as possible. The division has streamlined the process for injured employees to request reemployment services through the creation of a new Web portal for injured employees. Assistance may include vocational counseling, job-seeking skills training, job analysis, transferable skills analysis, selective job placement, training and education or other services deemed necessary and appropriate to help an injured worker return to work.
