Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features some M&A news from Prime Health Services, as they recently announced their acquisition of PPO network Casualty Management Network (CMN). Prime noted that the acquisition greatly enhances their coverage in the state of Colorado for all its product lines, and as consolidation of PPOs continues nationally, especially in workers’ comp, they’ll continue working to aggressively contract the most sought after providers.

Also in the news today is CWCI, who have recently released their estimates from an analysis of duplicate payments to hospitals allowed by the California Workers’ Compensation Official Medical Fee Schedule for implantable hardware used in spinal surgeries. CWCI estimated that in 2010, pass-through payments added almost $67.5 million to the basic inpatient hospital facility fees paid for workers’ compensation back surgeries, up 22% from 2008.
