Franklin, TN – The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) recently appointed Dr. Karl Auerbach, MD, MS, MBA, FACOEM and Dr. Melissa Bean, DO, MBA, MPH, FACOEM, to one year terms as ACOEM President and Speaker of the House of Delegates, respectively, during ACOEM’s 97th annual membership meeting.
Dr. Auerbach serves as the Medical Director for MetraComp, Inc., Coventry’s certified PPO offering in New York State. In his role as MetraComp Medical Director, Dr. Auerbach has responsibility for program oversight and development.
In addition, Dr. Auerbach is Medical Director of Occupational Medicine at Pulse Occupational Medicine in Rochester, N.Y. and Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y. He is a consulting Managing Scientist in the Biomechanics Practice of Exponent, Inc., Philadelphia, Pa.
During his accepting remarks, Dr. Auerbach laid out his plans as president, including his desire to maintain and continue development of ACOEM’s guidelines in a sustainable way. Additionally, he expressed a desire to help ACOEM project a strong voice in the national implementation of health care reform and improve ACOEM’s ability to anticipate and respond to state level issues.
Dr. Bean is the Medical Director at Coventry Workers’ Comp Services and has been an ACOEM member since 1995. Dr. Bean is board certified in Occupational Medicine and a Fellow of ACOEM. She has held several positions for the House of Delegates including Recorder and Speaker Elect. At Coventry Dr. Bean plays a key role in developing clinical best practices for managing complex claims as well as overseeing the physician review component within utilization review and case management.
As the Speaker of the House of Delegates, ACOEM’s legislative arm, Dr. Bean will take the lead in making recommendations to the ACOEM Board of Directors concerning policy matters affecting the College.
