Today’s edition of WorkCompRecap kicks off the week with some reform news, as the Ohio BWC recently announced several targeted reform initiatives they’re supporting. Aside from recently implemented changes within the BWC, such as their drug formulary and pharmacy lock-in program, the BWC’s three main legislative goals include focusing on improving patient outcomes with goals such as ensuring care sought in the first 45 days following an injury is paid for, regardless of whether the claim is eventually allowed or denied, focusing on under-performing providers with options like de-certification authority, and finally, streamlining the BWC’s processes.

Also in the news today is the California WCIRB, who recently released their report on Fourth Quarter 2011 Insurer Experience. Key findings in the report included statewide written premium having risen by $1 billion for the second consecutive year, and the projection that 2011 accident year indemnity claim frequency is at approximately the same level as 2010, but is almost 9% higher than the frequency for 2009.
