DULUTH, GA ― PRIUM’s Qualified Medical Intervention (QMI) services received a Business Insurance Innovation Award, which recognizes products and services for professional risk managers that address risk identification, assessment/analysis, control and/or financing.
QMI reduces the potential for injured employees to become addicted to narcotics and decreases the use of unnecessary or inappropriate drugs. QMI identifies “questionable” claims, those including opioids, compounds and NSAIDs. Using evidence based medicine, a PRIUM physician collaborates with the prescribing physician on new drug therapy. Approximately 70 percent of the prescribing physicians agree to modify medications.
While many drug review programs end with providing a drug utilization report, QMI goes much further. PRIUM secures the treating physician’s written agreement and implements a customized formulary requiring prior authorizations of all medications deemed unnecessary or inappropriate.
“Most importantly, a nurse oversees the claim during the weaning or discontinuation phase, calling physicians before and after the claimant’s office visit to ensure the agreed-upon changes occur,” said Michael Gavin, PRIUM’s CMO.
