San Francisco, CA – The Governing Committee of the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau announced today that it has named William J. Mudge as President and CEO effective December 19, 2011. Mr. Mudge replaces Timothy Benjamin who has served as interim president since the retirement of longtime president Robert Mike on December 1, 2011.
Prior to joining the WCIRB, Mr. Mudge served as President and CEO of CompWest Insurance Company, a workers’ compensation specialty insurance company that he founded in 2004. Mr. Mudge has more than 20 years experience in senior leadership positions at workers’ compensation insurers with a strong presence in California.
“With a proven track record as an innovator, entrepreneur and strong leader, Bill brings a unique set of skills to the position,” said Jim Little, President and CEO of Pacific Compensation Insurance Company and Chairman of the WCIRB Governing Committee. “The Governing Committee is confident that Bill will build on the exemplary record of the WCIRB to provide accurate and timely products and services to the workers’ compensation community and provide the strategic vision necessary to continue to meet the changing needs of the WCIRB constituencies.”
“I am honored to have been chosen as president of the WCIRB— it is a highly-respected organization that has served the needs of insurers, the California Department of Insurance, employers and others for almost a century,” Mudge said. “I look forward to working with all the system stakeholders, the Governing Committee and the WCIRB management team and employees to serve the evolving needs of the workers’ compensation community.”
