MSC Acquires Integrated Healthcare Services

October 4, 2011 - WorkCompWire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – MSC Care Management, a provider of medical products and services to post-discharge and post-injury workers’ compensation claimants nationwide, announced today that it will acquire Integrated Healthcare Services, a national company also focused on the workers’ compensation industry, to offer a unique and comprehensive surgical implant cost management solution, known as S3. Integrated Healthcare Services’ other business units will also join with MSC to further fortify MSC’s position in the market, providing specialized workers’ compensation solutions in Catastrophic & Home Health Services and Equipment & Device Management.

“We have devoted ourselves to focusing on finding best in class solutions within our core area of expertise,” said Joe Delaney, MSC’s President and CEO. “Our acquisition of Integrated Healthcare Services is part of that strategy. Implant costs are on the rise, and PPO discounts do not get at the root cause of over-inflated prices. IHS has developed a program to mitigate this burden; with more than 15 years of medical device, hospital and physician experience, IHS works in direct collaboration with all parties involved to achieve true savings through transparent pricing. Incorporating this solution into our total ancillary cost management approach will significantly impact our clients spend in this category and further demonstrates our commitment to continued focus and investment in this important market.”

For more than 25 years, MSC has created scale and breadth through its national network of locally based providers committed to delivering the best service possible. “With the addition of IHS and the targeted solution to surgical implant cost management, we are poised to lead the industry with true expertise, superior technology and benefits of scale,” said Delaney.

“The combined expertise of MSC and IHS is especially relevant as surgical implant costs continue to increase and liens and litigation resulting from vague legislative guidelines plague our customers” stated Jim Snow, CEO and co-founder of Integrated Healthcare Services. Snow co-founded Integrated with Michael Ferraro, its President, in 2006 to develop a better delivery model for cost containment programs to workers’ compensation employers and insurers. “We feel that our teaming up with MSC will not only serve our customers with a more comprehensive cost savings program but also allow us to bring our surgical cost containment program to more customers at a quicker pace. In today’s business and economic environment, employers and payers need significant savings now and our combined programs will bring costs down and improve their management of these key areas of potential abuse.”
