Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of NCCI’s 2011 update of their annual look at prescription drug prices and workers comp. While NCCI has been releasing studies on the use of prescription drugs in workers comp and their significance as a driver of medical costs for years, in 2010 they identified sudden and significant growth in the share of workers comp drugs dispensed by physicians.
Key findings from the report include the fact that OxyContin® climbed from the number 3 drug in Service Year 2008 to number 1 in Service Year 2009, and that recent overall cost increases are driven more by utilization increases than by price increases.
