Today’s edition of WorkCompRecap features the Washington, D.C. based American Insurance Association (AIA)’s statement in reaction to the passage of several Workers’ Comp bills by California’s Legislature. AIA expressed their pleasure in the passage of AB 378, which is related to compound drugs, removing the financial incentive for physician provision of compound drugs and limiting physician reimbursement for compound drugs. Regular readers may recall that previous Leaders Speak contributor Jeff Miller of Paladin Managed Care Services weighed in on AB 378 back in June.
AIA has recommended that California Governor Jerry Brown sign AB 378, however their reactions to other bills took a different tack, as the AIA believes that AB 584, AB 947, and AB 1155, which relate to UR licensing, disability cap extensions, and apportionment in disability cases will all contribute to increased costs.
