August 24, 2011 - WorkCompWire

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report by the California Workers’ Compensation Institute (CWCI) on the increase in average Temporary Disability (TD) payments in California since the enactment of 2004 reforms (SB 899). According to the new report, which drew on a sample of 315,500 claims from CWCI’s Industry Claim Information System, average TD benefit payments and paid TD days have been increasing in recent years, with average TD paid 12 months after the initial payment on accident year (AY) 2009 claims nearly matching the pre-reform level noted in AY 2004, with some claims from 2008 actually exceeding the pre-reform high.
