Harrisburg – Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway today announced Brian Nixon, of Scranton, has been appointed director of the State Workers Insurance Fund (SWIF).
Nixon, a former deputy attorney general in the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, has also served as assistant solicitor and business administrator for the city of Scranton. Before opening his own legal practice, he served as assistant district attorney for Lackawanna County and as an attorney for the firm of Mattes and Mattes.
“I am pleased Brian will be assuming this role,” said Hearthway. “His years of legal and business experience will be great assets at SWIF.”
Established by statute in 1915, SWIF provides an assured source of workers’ compensation insurance for Pennsylvania businesses and their employees. Headquartered in Scranton with eight district offices around the state and operating under the same rules and requirements private workers’ compensation insurers must obey, SWIF is the largest writer of workers’ compensation insurance in Pennsylvania.
