Today’s edition of WorkCompRecap features a new report recently released by the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) on variations among different states in the use of narcotics for treating injured workers. According to the new study, among the claims studied, there were certain states where patients who began treatment with narcotics were more likely to end up using narcotics on a longer-term basis. The report also indicated that many doctors who prescribe narcotics to injured workers are not using the recommended tools to monitor use, abuse, and diversion.
