Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features news coming from the Federal level, as the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce announced that it passed – with unanimous support – the Federal Workers’ Compensation Modernization and Improvement Act, which “modernizes benefits to reflect the realities of today’s economy”. The committee pointed out that the program has not been significantly reformed in almost 40 years, and as a result, a number of weaknesses had emerged that demanded Congressional action.
Additionally, committee leaders requested a comprehensive review from the Government Accountability Office of additional reforms that may be needed to strengthen the program and the impact of the potential reforms on beneficiaries.
