Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the North Carolina House’s passage of HB 709 – one of the of the primary objectives of which was to bring North Carolina’s indemnity costs in line with surrounding states by limiting the duration of temporary total disability (TTD) benefits. The proposed legislation would place a 500-week cap on temporary total disability benefits, and increase the cap on temporary partial disability benefits from 300 weeks to 500 weeks, alongside other changes.

Also in the news is Pinnacol Assurance’s Board of Directors announcement that its Special Committee has completed a “full, rigorous examination of Pinnacol’s business practices and policies”, which came at the request of Colorado Governor Hickenlooper. The examination found nothing the Special Committee believed fell beyond the “reasonable practices of a company charged with competing in the mutual insurance marketplace,” but they did say that there are “specific, limited areas” that they have directed Pinnacol’s management to address.
