Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features legislative news, as the American Insurance Association announced its support for Workers’ Comp reforms in Illinois, and contacted the lead Democratic negotiator on workers’ compensation issues. The AIA advocated a full range of reforms, and highlighted ones that had been successful in other states, and were included in the recent SB 1349, which was narrowly rejected in a recent session. In legal news, the Lousiana Workforce Commission recently announced that it received $100k from a $200k restitution payment from a business owner who was arrested in late 2009 on charges of insurance and workers’ compensation fraud. The defendant’s company reported around 35 employees, with a payroll of about $145,347, when it should have reported more than 300 employees and a payroll of more than $4.2 million.
