Today’s edition of WorkCompRecap features new results released by the SFN group from their February update of the SFN Group Employee Confidence Index, which now stands at 53.6 after an increase of 0.8 points last month. The index measures both worker confidence in their personal employment situation and their optimism about the economy, and has reached the highest level seen since October 2007, with more workers reporting overall confidence in the economic landscape.

Also released was a statement from Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis on the results of the Department of Labor’s Employment numbers for February. In her statement Secretary Solis echoed some of the workforce’s rising optimism, as she shared that the unemployment rate had declined to 8.9 percent, beating the consensus estimate. Solis also reiterated some sentiments from President Obama’s State of the Union address, acknowledging that there was still plenty of work to be done.
