URAC Awards Rising with Workers’ Compensation Utilization Management Accreditation

March 9, 2011 - WorkCompWire

Chicago, IL – URAC, a Washington, DC-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry, grants the Full Workers’ Compensation Utilization Management Accreditation to Rising Medical Solutions for a second time. Currently, Rising is one of just 40 companies in America with this accreditation.

“Rising and URAC share a commitment to quality service delivery,” says Anne Kirby, Director of Rising’s Utilization Review Unit. “We have found the URAC review process to be very positive and achieving this accreditation supports our efforts to provide optimal results to customers.”

Serving payers nationwide, Rising’s Workers’ Compensation Utilization Review program combines the medical expertise of physicians and nurses with technology to deliver: appropriate, evidence-based care for patients and greater efficiencies for providers and payers. The URAC distinction complements Rising’s 21+ Utilization Review certifications and licensures in various states that require such credentials, including California, Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and Massachusetts.

“By applying for and receiving full accreditation for Workers’ Compensation Utilization Management from URAC, Rising Medical Solutions has demonstrated a commitment to quality healthcare,” says Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “Quality healthcare is crucial to our nation’s welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards and undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent accrediting body.”

The Workers’ Compensation Utilization Management standards address the unique characteristics of workers’ compensation utilization management and ensure quality oversight for this fast growing area of managed care. The standards are similar to the URAC Health Utilization Management standards but contain modifications that reflect the unique aspects of the workers’ compensation environment and injured workers. Eight states and the District of Columbia recognize URAC Workers Compensation Utilization Management Accreditation in their workers’ compensation programs.

Rising was originally awarded the accreditation in 2009 and its renewed accreditation runs through February 2014.
