Drug Raids & Bribery Scandals!

March 20, 2011 - WorkCompWire

Today’s edition of WorkCompRecap features some action packed news coming out of Ohio, where the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, in cooperation with the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation issued statements about a raid that was performed on the offices of a doctor as part of an investigation into workers’ compensation fraud, and which may extend beyond fraud to include prescription drug abuse. In other “Law & Order” news, a lawsuit has been filed in California, alleging that bribes (including trips and condos!) were made and clandestine meetings held between Medco Health Solutions (Medco) and senior executives and directors of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) in order to help Medco win a lucrative pharmacy benefit contract from CalPERS.

The California Attorney General’s Office and the SEC are both probing the case, and a civil enforcement action has been brought by the state Attorney General, alleging bribery and corruption.
