ACIC Applauds the Appointment of Christine Baker as Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Industrial Relations

March 29, 2011 - WorkCompWire

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the Association of California Insurance Companies (ACIC) applauded Gov. Jerry Brown’s appointment of Christine Baker as chief deputy director of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). Baker has served as the executive officer of the Commission on Health Safety and Workers’ Compensation (CHSWC) since its creation in 1994. DIR is the state department tasked with overseeing various important work place safety programs including the Division of Workers’ Compensation. The following statement can be attributed to Mark Sektnan, ACIC president.

“The Governor has called upon the right candidate to lead DIR through the many challenges facing employers and employees today. Christine has been working to forge solutions and ways to improve work place environments for a long time. Her leadership at CHSWC has resulted in many improvements in return to work rates for injured workers. We look forward to continuing to work with her on legislation that will reign in the sky rocketing costs caused by the prescribing of compound drugs which are exempt from existing fee schedules. Christine has the right experience and know-how to lead DIR and help employers and employees keep job sites safe and cope with these difficult economic conditions.”
