Texas Governor Rick Perry Reappoints Bordelon as Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation

February 6, 2011 - WorkCompWire

Gov. Rick Perry has reappointed Rod A. Bordelon Jr. of Austin as commissioner of Workers’ Compensation at the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2013. TDI’s Division of Workers’ Compensation regulates the workers’ compensation system in Texas, ensuring that injured workers receive the necessary benefits in order to return to work quickly, and that workers’ compensation costs are kept at a reasonable level for Texas employers.

Bordelon has served as commissioner of Workers’ Compensation at the Texas Department of Insurance since his appointment in September 2008. He is former public counsel for the Office of Public Insurance Counsel and a past advisory member of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission. He is also a board member of the Workers’ Compensation Self Insurer Guaranty Association, and a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American and Austin Bar associations.

Bordelon received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from South Texas College of Law.

The appointment is subject to senate confirmation.
