Open Wide…

January 28, 2011 - WorkCompWire

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features two pieces of interesting news coming out of California. Up first is the announcement that The Dentists’ Insurance Company (TDIC) has obtained approval from the California Department of Insurance to underwrite Workers’ Compensation insurance.

With the addition of Workers’ Compensation, TDIC is now able to offer all of the necessary primary lines for practice owners. Their creation story, which is an interesting response to market conditions, is of note: TDIC was formed in the 1980s in the face of rising annual insurance premiums that were “putting some practitioners out of business”. Find out more by clicking here.

Also in the news today are two new reports from The California Division of Workers’ Compensation. First, the 2010 Audit Unit report covers the performance of 59 companies that were audited by the DWC in 2009. Points of interest include detailed exhibits of performance ratings, cited violations, and compensation due for the individual audits. Also published was the Ethics Advisory Committee’s 2009 annual report, which covers complaints and actions taken with regard to Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judges. Find out more (including links to the reports!) by clicking here.
