MSC Strengthens Clinical Expertise with Addition of Regional Clinical Specialists

January 31, 2011 - WorkCompWire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — MSC, a leader in care management solutions serving post-injury workers’ compensation patients, further fortifies its clinical foundation and expertise with the hiring of additional Regional Clinical Specialists. This newly created position further enhances the MSC offering in Catastrophic Care by partnering with nurse case managers, adjusters and discharge planners, providing a clinical expert as a resource to educate and assist customers in achieving our mutual goals of helping the injured worker.

As nurse case managers monitor the progress of injured workers and serve as intermediaries among involved parties, MSC clinical specialists will be available to provide guidance and support regarding the ancillary services that will best contribute to a return to an optimal level of work and functioning. Providing an expert clinical viewpoint, the MSC clinical specialist can serve as a true resource to those directly managing workers’ compensation patient needs.

“Serving as peer-to-peer resources to nurse case managers, discharge planners and insurance adjusters, our field-based clinical specialists will work closely, as needed, throughout a patient’s care, even pre-discharge,” said Joe Delaney, president and CEO of MSC. “The clinical specialists will act as a field-level liaison, assisting in the coordination of care for our services in the most critical cases, allowing the nurse case manager to focus on the larger patient-centric aspects of the claim.”

Experienced registered nurses with vast expertise in the health and managed care field have filled the newly created positions. Rachel Cox, RN, serves as clinical specialist for the Southeast region, which includes Washington D.C.; Mary McDermott, RN, has been hired for the Northeast region; Tara Martin, RN, serves the Central region; and Jonni Applefield, RN, is responsible for the 11 states comprising the West region. “These individuals are an extension of a team of professionals ensuring the right products and services are provided at the right time. At absolutely no cost, we feel this is a tremendous value-add to our client,” said Delaney.
