Reference Toolset Will Help DOD Improve Return-to-Work Outcomes for Active Troops and Civilians
WESTMINSTER, Colorado (January 5, 2011) — Reed Group announced that it has signed a contract to provide its return-to-work reference toolset, MDGuidelines, to the Department of Defense. MDGuidelines will be used for active troops and civilians in all four branches of the military: Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines as well as for other DOD employees.
“We are exceptionally honored to be chosen by the Department of Defense to help return ill and/or injured troops and civilians to their normal productive endeavors,” said Jon Seymour, M.D., Reed Group president, guidelines. “With its ease of use and proven effectiveness, MDGuidelines will be a powerful tool for improving return-to-work outcomes throughout the DOD’s entire organization.”
With more than 1300 medical topics, Reed Group’s MDGuidelines is the industry’s leading return-to-work (RTW) reference toolset. MDGuidelines includes evidence-based, physician-reviewed RTW duration guidelines, a powerful predictive modeling tool that enables case managers to tailor guidelines to individual employees, medical monographs suitable for employee/patient education, and occupational treatment guidelines by ACOEM (American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine).
The Department of Defense adoption of MDGuidelines is timely in light of President Obama’s POWER (Prevent Injuries of Federal Civilian Employees) Initiative. The 2010 initiative is designed to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses for Federal civilian workers, which resulted in more than $1.6 billion in workers’ compensation payments in 2009.
Dr. Seymour said that MDGuidelines would be an excellent tool for helping the Federal government reach its POWER goals. “The use of MDGuidelines disability duration guidelines for managing cases, benchmarking and achieving consistency of treatment is proven to substantially improve return-to-work outcomes,” he said. “We hope someday to be able to help improve outcomes, not just for the Department of Defense, but for all Federal workers.”
