Today’s edition of WorkCompRecap has an interesting mix of news and announcements. However, I want to focus your attention today on a major problem with our national work force that is hiding “right out in the open.”
As you will see in the posted reports, we are getting very mixed signals in the economy regarding employment. Some of the reports state that employee confidence is rising, and another report indicates that hiring for the IT sector will be strong in the coming year. On the flip side, Manpower, one of the worldwide leaders in innovative workforce solutions, indicates that employers are still relying heavily on “flexible workers” (read “temporary help” or “contract labor”) due to increasing demand for goods and services, driven largely by lingering uncertainty in the economy.
All of this news about employment, unemployment, flexible work forces and the state of the economy overlooks a less obvious problem right in front of all of us; the health and productivity of our active workforce.
To that point, The Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI) has done marvelous work through the years raising the awareness of employers and others about the health and productivity of their work force. Recently, they posted a clever video on the subject that is worth watching by clicking here. It provides a great reminder that we also need to worry about the health and well-being of those employees that are still on the job. Visit the IBI website to explore the wealth of good information they have on this topic.
