Is There a Connection Between Workers’ Compensation and Diabetes?
You Bet There IS!
With an estimated 24 million people (about 8% of US population) now afflicted with this chronic disease, just about any experienced claims executive, case manager, occupational medicine professional, risk manager, employer or claims adjuster can tell you a story about how diabetes can have a significant, and complicating, impact on the recovery process of an injured worker. Unfortunately, these complications are here to stay, since it is estimated that by the year 2050, 39 million Americans will have been diagnosed with this disease.

Yesterday, the connection was made a little closer to home.
On Saturday, the entire WorkCompWire staff, including family, significant others and friends, participated in the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) fundraising walk here in San Diego. We did this in support of a close family friend that has been a Type 1 Diabetic since she was a child, when she used to tell her father almost daily; “Daddy, I don’t want this anymore.”
As it turned out, it was a great start to the weekend and a good reminder that we can all find ways to “give back” to worthy causes that touch both our professional and personal lives. I hope this note inspires you the way the JDRF walk yesterday inspired me. I came home and doubled my donation!
