WorkCompRecap: A New Path!

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features some interesting news from case management company Windham Group, who have received the first case in Massachusetts’s Opioid Alternative Treatment Pathway (OATP) program.

The state’s Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) recently launched the two-year pilot program, where a care coordinator is assigned to mediate pain management treatment between an injured worker and the insurance company covering medical care. Windham Group described the goal as helping the injured employee learn how to control pain with non-opioid methods, such as acupuncture, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness meditation so they can eliminate or significantly reduce the amount of narcotic pain medication they use.
